Jay Spillane

Jay Spillane is a trial lawyer with a proven record of courtroom success.  Jay graduated Order of the Coif from Hastings College of the Law in 1986, and was a litigation attorney at O’Melveny & Myers prior to founding Spillane Shaeffer Aronoff Bandlow LLP.  He handles litigation matters for clients in the Internet, motion picture, television, music, sports, advertising, publishing, real estate, investment, technology and software industries. Jay also represents public entities in municipal and regulatory disputes.

Jay’s recent successes include: settlement without litigation in favor of the founders of a prominent technology company in a dispute over ownership of a multimedia sports venture; defeat of a preliminary injunction motion and a favorable settlement on behalf of an Internet management company in a copyright secondary liability action; summary judgment in favor of the defendants, an Internet payment processing company and a web hosting company, in a copyright secondary liability action, Perfect 10, Inc. v. CCBill, LLC, 488 F.3d 1102 (9th Cir. 2007), and negotiation of a significant settlement on behalf of a mainframe software company in an action against one of the nation’s largest computer outsourcing companies. Jay currently represents major municipal ports in strategizing and litigation involving clean air issues.

Jay is a frequent lecturer at forums such as the Harvard Sports and Entertainment Law Symposium and the Beverly Hills Bar Association.  Jay has chaired the Entertainment and Litigation sections and served on the board of the Beverly Hills Bar Association.  He is currently serving as a lawyer delegate to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference.
